What To Do If You Are Injured At Work
If you are injured while at work, report the incident immediately to your supervisor. The longer you wait to report an injury, the less likely your claim will be accepted under workers compensation insurance.
Initial steps if you are injured while at work:
- If it is an emergency, seek medical attention right away. Have a co-worker contact your supervisor if you are unable to. Once the emergency is resolved, see your supervisor to make sure the first report of injury was completed and if not, assist with completing this report of injury and ensuring it is sent to Human Resources.
- If it is not an emergency, but you need medical attention, report the injury to your supervisor and initiate the First Report of Injury with your supervisor. Make an appointment with a preferred provider for workplace injuries and have the physician complete a "workability report" for you. Provide a copy of the workability report to your supervisor.
- If it is a minor injury and you do not need medical attention, report the injury to your supervisor and initiate the First Report of Injury with your supervisor.
Your Claim Number:
You will be assigned a claim number by the Third Party Administrator, CCMSI once the first report of injury is processed. Keep a record of your claim number. You will need this claim number for future medical visits or prescriptions related to the workers compensation claim.
Lost Time From Work:
If you miss time from work, you must provide an appropriate physician statement that is dated on or before the date of the absence. Wage loss benefits are available with a certified medical necessity for removal from work.
Follow Up Medical Visits:
Appointments for medical treatment, physical therapy, etc. should be scheduled during non-working hours, or by using sick leave or vacation time, with supervisor approval. All workability reports should be turned in to your supervisor immediately following the doctor visit.
